Chikitsakhi is a companion for medical care in government hospital system in Delhi. Through this design intervention, I intend to help patients and the medical staff by reducing the chaos and confusion in a government hospital out-patient department. Chikitsakhi, as denoted by its name, wants to act as a friend to the patient, making the entire experience a little better.

Chikitsakhi started as an exploration of problems in the Indian healthcare system, which led to a comprehensive study of the various systems involved, various problems faced, and eventually landed upon OPDs and overcrowding.
Project Duration: 4 months
Research Scope: Small to big government hospitals in Delhi.
Subject: Design Project-5
The starting point of research for this project was the general idea of how poor the state of government hospitals is. To quote the ambulance guy in DTU, “aapko to pata hi hai phir sarkaari aspataalo ka kya haal hai.”
In addition to this well-known, sadly accepted, truth; another bothersome fact is: majorly, treatment adherence in india is really poor and the healthcare system has processes that make it harder to avail treatment.
"Basically, delhi’s healthcare system and the overall government healthcare system in india isn’t doin too well."
The next step was mapping all the systems and their relations in the same environment (government hospitals). So, here I have mapped all the systems that the stakeholders have to interact with and the system flows that exist.
Now, that we understand the systems we are working with, lets try to understand the key issues in the user journey. To do this, I’ve mapped a basic user journey, and the touchpoints involved.
and these were the problems that i could narrow down to:
“ How might we organize and improve the processes within a government hospital OPD so that the treatment becomes faster and smoother? ”
after this analysis, my solution objectives were:
So, I prepared an eisenhower matrix to help with the elimination process.
and then I was left with these possible solutions:
